Specialist Neurodevelopmental Practitioner & Independent Prescriber (NISP)
Every NeuroFX child autism assessment is conducted personally by Tina. 15 years of specialist mental health nursing experience and extensive neurodiversity specialist care, having conducted hundreds of ADHD and autism assessments. Tina is also an independent prescriber and an advanced specialist paediatric sleep practitioner. Assessments and prescribing follow NICE CG128 (autism in under-19s).
For Northampton patients in particular, child autism is multidisciplinary by design. Tina leads your assessment and report; Cheyenne Contreras, NeuroFX's specialist ADOS-2 practitioner, co-conducts the ADOS-2 observation. After the session both clinicians attend the internal MDT case review before your follow-up video call. Meet Cheyenne on the About page →
Northampton patients are seen in person at our Bedford clinic. This service is in-person only because it requires direct clinical observation or measurement that video cannot replicate.
Bedford Consulting Rooms on Goldington Road is a calm, residential-style space, not a hospital. Pay and display car park immediately next door (1 minute walk). Central rail station 8 minutes walk.
You are served clinically by Northamptonshire ICB. A private NeuroFX assessment is typically 6 to 8 weeks (next available soon).
Northampton families know the local picture well: NHFT's children and young people's ADHD and autism service, referred only through the Referral Management Centre, currently quotes an average wait of 93 weeks for a first appointment (page updated April 2026), and Integrated Care Northamptonshire notes that nationally completing an assessment can range from one year, with some parts of the UK reporting waits as long as 13 years. The system is responding: more than 500 extra autism and ADHD assessments for young people, funded by the NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board and delivered online by Healios, are being offered through 2025/26, with families contacted by letter.
The town is also part of the wider conversation, with University of Northampton researchers publishing on autism in schools in the International Journal of Developmental Disabilities (November 2024) and on autism in female prisons in the journal Autism (issue dated January 2025). Local, practical help is close at hand too, from Autism East Midlands' free family support hub at Kingsthorpe Baptist Church on the first Monday of the month to the parent-led FACT Northants group at Cedar Road School, neither of which requires a diagnosis to attend.
A private assessment with a CQC-registered clinic sits alongside this NHS provision rather than replacing it; if ongoing shared-care prescribing matters to you, it remains at the GP's sole discretion, and the local ICB has confirmed there are no shared-care arrangements with Right to Choose providers for ADHD medication, so it is worth speaking to your GP before booking.
Adult autism services commissioned via this ICB. Right to Choose is available to some patients in this area.

Autism has no NICE-recommended pharmacological treatment, so the conversations after diagnosis are different to ADHD. Here is what to expect for Northampton patients.
Right to Choose lets eligible patients pick any NHS-contracted provider. For autism specifically, the list of RTC providers is shorter than for ADHD, and most published waits are still measured in years.
NeuroFX is a fully private autism assessment outside the RTC framework. We can be quicker (typically 6 to 8 weeks), but you pay the fee directly.
There is no NICE-recommended pharmacological treatment for autism itself. After diagnosis we focus on:
Onward signposting: Northampton community autism services, the National Autistic Society's local peer network, and any free workshops or peer-led groups in the area.
School and study evidence: Your report is written to support SENCO conversations, EHCP applications and Equality Act 2010 reasonable adjustments at school.
Co-occurring conditions: If ADHD is also suspected, we book a separate child ADHD assessment, which can be added at the £950 top-up rate.

Northampton is a town that has been at the centre of English life for centuries longer than most people realise -- a major market town since the Norman era, seat of royal courts, and home to one of the world's great shoemaking traditions. The boot and shoe industry shaped not just the local economy but the character of the place: practical, skilled, quietly proud.
The town is in the middle of significant regeneration, and Delapre Abbey on the southern edge -- a medieval priory saved by a long community campaign -- is one of the hidden gems of the East Midlands. Northampton is also notable for producing people who go on to do extraordinary things quietly and without fuss.
This page is for Northampton, Daventry, Wellingborough, Rushden, Towcester, Olney, Brixworth, Long Buckby, Earls Barton and surrounding villages.Schools, universities, employers and parent-carer networks in the Northampton area all have routes you can use, some free, all helpful while you wait or after a diagnosis.
For children and young people in this area, the LEA is West Northamptonshire Council. Your child's SENCO is the right first call about how a private assessment is used in an EHCP application or annual review.
Our reports are designed to support DSA applications and Equality Act 2010 reasonable-adjustment requests at universities, colleges and employers in the area.
