Your local NHS context

Wellingborough ADHD waiting times and your NHS options.

You are served clinically by Northamptonshire ICB. A private NeuroFX assessment is typically 6 to 8 weeks (next available soon).

What the local data means for patients

Wellingborough sits in North Northamptonshire, where neurodevelopmental assessment for children is delivered by Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust through the county Children and Young People ADHD and ASD service, with referrals accepted only via the Referral Management Centre and not directly from parents. In North Northamptonshire that NHS service covers children of all school ages, a wider remit than neighbouring West Northamptonshire, but the average wait for a first appointment was 93 weeks as of April 2026. To ease pressure, NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board funded more than 500 extra neurodevelopmental assessments for the county in 2025/26, delivered through the independent provider Healios.

Unlike parts of London and the East of England, Northamptonshire's ICB is unchanged: it is in a clustering arrangement with Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland but remains a separate legal entity, with any formal merger not expected before April 2027. Locally, families can draw on Wellingborough groups such as the FACT Northants coffee morning at Olympic Primary School, alongside Autism East Midlands. A NeuroFX private assessment is intended to sit alongside this NHS care rather than replace it, and any shared-care prescribing afterwards remains at the GP's sole discretion, so patients for whom shared care matters should speak to their GP before booking.

Right to Choose ADHD in Wellingborough.

Two things every Wellingborough patient asks about. We've separated them clearly here so you can decide your route with full information, rather than discovering the catch after you have booked.

Right to Choose · NHS-funded

Right to Choose, plainly explained.

Right to Choose is an NHS England policy letting eligible patients choose any NHS-contracted provider for ADHD assessment, including some private providers funded by the NHS. It is not a NeuroFX service.

It exists, has helped people, and has been overwhelmed in turn: published waits at many RTC providers are now measured in years. The ADHD UK tracker is the single best place to compare current RTC provider waits.

If RTC is your priority, check the tracker first. If a fast private route is your priority, that is what NeuroFX is for.

Shared care · GP prescribing

Shared care is your GP's decision.

Entering into a shared-care agreement after private titration is entirely at the individual GP's sole discretion, and is also affected by Northamptonshire ICB policy. We cannot guarantee any GP will take on prescribing responsibility following a private assessment or titration.

If shared care after titration is a priority for you, speak to your Wellingborough GP before booking to understand their position. We will provide a structured handover designed to make that conversation as easy as possible.

No surprises. We'd rather lose a booking than have you discover this after you've paid.

About the Wellingborough patients we see

In and around Wellingborough.

Wellingborough sits in the Nene Valley in the middle of Northamptonshire, a market town with a strong industrial heritage in footwear and leather goods that has transitioned into a broader manufacturing and distribution economy. The town has excellent rail connections via the Midland Main Line, making it an increasingly attractive option for families seeking value and accessibility.

The Church of All Hallows in the town centre is a remarkable Arts and Crafts building by John Ninian Comper, considered by some to be the finest twentieth-century church interior in England -- an almost-secret that rewards knowing. The Nene Valley Railway, running steam trains through the valley east of town, is a genuine local treasure.
