Hello, I'm Tina. I'm the lead clinician at NeuroFX. At our CQC-registered clinic, we offer specialist autism and ADHD assessments for children aged six and over and adults.
So after booking an assessment with us online or in person, you'll then be invited to take part in the onboarding process, and that is for you to be able to tell your story. It will include physical and mental health history, and then after that, you'll be sent some additional screening tools, which can all be completed in digital format online. You can pause at any time, and you can do that in the comfort of your own home. This enables me to better understand your story and your individual needs before we meet.
Next is your ADHD assessment, which is either online or in the clinic, coming to talk to me face to face. The process does take about two to three hours. That'll give you a chance to hopefully feel relaxed in an environment where you can tell me about the impacts and difficulties and how these have affected you. This follows all NICE guidelines.
In some situations, I may be able to tell you the diagnosis on the same day that we meet. In other scenarios, I might have to perhaps gain some more evidence. You might need to talk to other people, employers, family, partners, school, university, for me to be able to get a really good idea of the evidence, perhaps that you can't see yourself, and might help towards that diagnosis. You'll be provided a diagnostic report, provided I have all of that evidence, within 14 days.

Specialist Neurodevelopmental Practitioner & Independent Prescriber (NISP)
Every NeuroFX medication and titration package is conducted personally by Tina. 15 years of specialist mental health nursing experience and extensive neurodiversity specialist care, having conducted hundreds of ADHD and autism assessments. Tina is also an independent prescriber and an advanced specialist paediatric sleep practitioner. Assessments and prescribing follow NICE NG87 plus BAP guidance. She works with both stimulants (lisdexamfetamine, methylphenidate IR and modified-release) and non-stimulants (atomoxetine, guanfacine), chosen based on your clinical picture, not protocol.
For Edinburgh patients in particular, having one clinician end-to-end means no diagnostic hand-offs and no inconsistency between assessment and prescriber. Same person, all the way through.

In Edinburgh, NHS adult ADHD and autism assessments are the responsibility of NHS Lothian, with services delivered through the city's Health and Social Care Partnerships and accessed by a GP referral to the local Community Mental Health Team. Demand is high and waiting times are long: a Scottish Parliament Information Centre blog reported that, from a June 2024 NHS Lothian Freedom of Information response, the average waiting time for an adult ADHD assessment in Edinburgh was 23.5 months, and Salvesen Mindroom Centre highlighted Edinburgh and Lothians ADHD referrals running at around ten a day in 2023. NeuroFX is a CQC-registered private clinic that offers secure online ADHD and autism assessments to people in Edinburgh, typically completed in 6 to 8 weeks, and this sits alongside NHS Lothian care rather than replacing it.
Scotland does not have NHS England's Right to Choose, so a privately funded assessment is a separate route that runs in parallel to the NHS list rather than a referral within it. On medication, there is currently no NHS Scotland policy requiring shared care after a private diagnosis; National Autism Implementation Team guidance is clear that a private specialist's recommendation does not entitle a patient to NHS prescriptions, so whether your GP enters a shared-care arrangement remains at their sole discretion, and it is worth speaking to your GP first if shared care matters to you.
Locally, autistic adults can draw on Number 6 One Stop Shop in Edinburgh and the Scottish Autism advice line, while the Salvesen Mindroom Centre supports neurodivergent people and their families across Scotland.
Adult ADHD and autism assessment in this area is planned by NHS Lothian, part of NHS Scotland. Right to Choose is an NHS England scheme and does not apply here.

Two things every Edinburgh patient asks about, set out clearly so you can choose your route with full information rather than discovering the catch after you have booked.
In Scotland you access an NHS ADHD or autism assessment through a GP referral to your local NHS Lothian Community Mental Health Team, where it joins the waiting list if accepted. Scotland does not have NHS England's Right to Choose, so you cannot direct an NHS-funded referral to a private provider. A NeuroFX assessment is a separate, privately funded route that runs in parallel, typically completed in 6 to 8 weeks.
Entering a shared-care arrangement after a private assessment and titration is entirely at the individual GP's sole discretion. There is currently no national NHS Scotland shared-care policy; National Autism Implementation Team guidance is clear that a private specialist's recommendation does not by itself entitle a patient to NHS prescriptions. We cannot guarantee any GP will take on prescribing, so if shared care matters to you, speak to your Edinburgh GP before booking. We provide a structured handover designed to make that conversation as easy as possible.
