Read the transcript

Hello, I'm Tina. I'm the lead clinician at NeuroFX. At our CQC-registered clinic, we offer specialist autism and ADHD assessments for children aged six and over and adults.

So after booking an assessment with us online or in person, you'll then be invited to take part in the onboarding process, and that is for you to be able to tell your story. It will include physical and mental health history, and then after that, you'll be sent some additional screening tools, which can all be completed in digital format online. You can pause at any time, and you can do that in the comfort of your own home. This enables me to better understand your story and your individual needs before we meet.

Next is your ADHD assessment, which is either online or in the clinic, coming to talk to me face to face. The process does take about two to three hours. That'll give you a chance to hopefully feel relaxed in an environment where you can tell me about the impacts and difficulties and how these have affected you. This follows all NICE guidelines.

In some situations, I may be able to tell you the diagnosis on the same day that we meet. In other scenarios, I might have to perhaps gain some more evidence. You might need to talk to other people, employers, family, partners, school, university, for me to be able to get a really good idea of the evidence, perhaps that you can't see yourself, and might help towards that diagnosis. You'll be provided a diagnostic report, provided I have all of that evidence, within 14 days.

So wherever you are on your journey, all the information is available on our website. You could book a call to talk to our team. You can book online. You can also simply email us if you have any questions. We do have payment plans available to pay in three or four instalments. So we look forward to meeting you and working with you on your journey.

Your local NHS context

Welwyn Garden City ADHD waiting times and your NHS options.

You are served clinically by NHS Central East ICB. A private NeuroFX assessment is typically 6 to 8 weeks (next available soon).

Data direct from your region

Families across Welwyn Garden City and the wider Welwyn Hatfield area can draw on a notably local research and support landscape, with the University of Hertfordshire in neighbouring Hatfield home to long-running autism work including the KASPAR social robot, which a 2018 University of Hertfordshire review reports has been used in case-study evaluation with around 170 autistic children to encourage communication and play. NHS assessment for children here runs through the East and North Hertfordshire route of Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, with QEII Hospital in Welwyn Garden City among the local assessment venues, while adult mental-health care is provided by Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

Demand remains real: Hertfordshire County Council reported that 89 per cent of Education, Health and Care Plans were issued on time in September 2025 and has said it is exploring the work of other authorities to make autism and ADHD diagnosis more efficient. From 1 April 2026, local NHS planning moved from the former Hertfordshire and West Essex ICB into the new NHS Central East Integrated Care Board, which covers around 3.5 million people across Bedfordshire, Luton, Milton Keynes, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

NeuroFX offers private ADHD and autism assessment to sit alongside this NHS care, never to replace it, and any move to shared care for medication remains at the GP's sole discretion, so families for whom this matters should speak to their GP before booking. Local groups such as the free SPACE Welwyn support group, which welcomes parents whether or not their child has a diagnosis, can also help while waiting.

Right to Choose ADHD in Welwyn Garden City.

Two things every Welwyn Garden City patient asks about. We've separated them clearly here so you can decide your route with full information, rather than discovering the catch after you have booked.

Right to Choose · NHS-funded

Right to Choose, plainly explained.

Right to Choose is an NHS England policy letting eligible patients choose any NHS-contracted provider for ADHD assessment, including some private providers funded by the NHS. It is not a NeuroFX service.

It exists, has helped people, and has been overwhelmed in turn: published waits at many RTC providers are now measured in years. The ADHD UK tracker is the single best place to compare current RTC provider waits.

If RTC is your priority, check the tracker first. If a fast private route is your priority, that is what NeuroFX is for.
Open the ADHD UK tracker →
Shared care · GP prescribing

Shared care is your GP's decision.

Entering into a shared-care agreement after private titration is entirely at the individual GP's sole discretion, and is also affected by NHS Central East ICB policy. We cannot guarantee any GP will take on prescribing responsibility following a private assessment or titration.

If shared care after titration is a priority for you, speak to your Welwyn Garden City GP before booking to understand their position. We will provide a structured handover designed to make that conversation as easy as possible.

No surprises. We'd rather lose a booking than have you discover this after you've paid.

About the Welwyn Garden City patients we see

In and around Welwyn Garden City.

Welwyn Garden City is the second garden city, founded in 1920 by Ebenezer Howard, and it has a slightly more formal, more designed quality than its older sibling -- the tree-lined Parkway, the town centre arranged around a considered civic axis, the residential areas laid out with an attention to detail that rewards slow walking. The former Shredded Wheat factory -- a remarkable Art Deco building at the entrance to the town -- has recently been converted into housing, giving a significant piece of industrial architecture a new life.

WGC attracts commuters to both London and Cambridge, and has become a desirable family destination for the reasons all garden cities attract families: space, greenery and genuine community feeling.
