Read the transcript

Hello, I'm Tina. I'm the lead clinician at NeuroFX. At our CQC-registered clinic, we offer specialist autism and ADHD assessments for children aged six and over and adults.

So after booking an assessment with us online or in person, you'll then be invited to take part in the onboarding process, and that is for you to be able to tell your story. It will include physical and mental health history, and then after that, you'll be sent some additional screening tools, which can all be completed in digital format online. You can pause at any time, and you can do that in the comfort of your own home. This enables me to better understand your story and your individual needs before we meet.

Next is your ADHD assessment, which is either online or in the clinic, coming to talk to me face to face. The process does take about two to three hours. That'll give you a chance to hopefully feel relaxed in an environment where you can tell me about the impacts and difficulties and how these have affected you. This follows all NICE guidelines.

In some situations, I may be able to tell you the diagnosis on the same day that we meet. In other scenarios, I might have to perhaps gain some more evidence. You might need to talk to other people, employers, family, partners, school, university, for me to be able to get a really good idea of the evidence, perhaps that you can't see yourself, and might help towards that diagnosis. You'll be provided a diagnostic report, provided I have all of that evidence, within 14 days.

So wherever you are on your journey, all the information is available on our website. You could book a call to talk to our team. You can book online. You can also simply email us if you have any questions. We do have payment plans available to pay in three or four instalments. So we look forward to meeting you and working with you on your journey.

Your local NHS context

York ADHD waiting times and your NHS options.

You are served clinically by Humber and North Yorkshire ICB. A private NeuroFX assessment is typically 6 to 8 weeks (next available soon).

Local NHS context and support

Across York, NHS autism and ADHD assessments are commissioned by NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, which in 2026 remains a single statutory body and was not part of the 1 April 2026 ICB mergers, so its name has not changed for York patients. The ICB commissions adult autism and ADHD assessment from The Retreat in York, with referral via a GP and an online triage tool, the North Yorkshire and York Platform for Adult Autism and ADHD Referrals; demand has far outstripped capacity, with NHS North Yorkshire reporting that as of April 2023 the average wait was 127 weeks for an adult autism assessment and 118 weeks for an adult ADHD assessment (draft figures for clinician sign-off).

NeuroFX is a CQC-registered private clinic offering secure ONLINE ADHD and autism assessments to York patients, typically completed in 6 to 8 weeks, and this sits alongside NHS care rather than replacing it. Because this is England, Right to Choose applies: the ICB confirms that patients registered with an English GP may be able to choose an NHS-contracted provider for a first, clinically appropriate assessment, though it notes that as the local commissioned provider The Retreat cannot take Right to Choose referrals from within York and North Yorkshire, so a Right to Choose referral would be to another NHS-contracted provider and is a separate route from a privately funded NeuroFX assessment.

Any shared-care arrangement for medication after a private assessment remains at the GP's sole discretion, and some York practices set their own policies, so it is worth speaking to your GP first if shared care matters to you. Local support is well established, including the City of York Council SEND Local Offer and York SEND, the Parent Carer Forum York, the York Disability Rights Forum neurodivergent subgroup and neurodiversity teams at the University of York.

Right to Choose ADHD in York.

Two things every York patient asks about. We've separated them clearly here so you can decide your route with full information, rather than discovering the catch after you have booked.

Right to Choose · NHS-funded

Right to Choose, plainly explained.

Right to Choose is an NHS England policy letting eligible patients choose any NHS-contracted provider for ADHD assessment, including some private providers funded by the NHS. It is not a NeuroFX service.

It exists, has helped people, and has been overwhelmed in turn: published waits at many RTC providers are now measured in years. The ADHD UK tracker is the single best place to compare current RTC provider waits.

If RTC is your priority, check the tracker first. If a fast private route is your priority, that is what NeuroFX is for.
Open the ADHD UK tracker →
Shared care · GP prescribing

Shared care is your GP's decision.

Entering into a shared-care agreement after private titration is entirely at the individual GP's sole discretion, and is also affected by Humber and North Yorkshire ICB policy. We cannot guarantee any GP will take on prescribing responsibility following a private assessment or titration.

If shared care after titration is a priority for you, speak to your York GP before booking to understand their position. We will provide a structured handover designed to make that conversation as easy as possible.

No surprises. We'd rather lose a booking than have you discover this after you've paid.

About the York patients we see

In and around York.

York is one of England's most complete historic cities -- Roman, Viking and medieval layers laid on top of each other and surviving with unusual coherence within the medieval city walls that still encircle the centre and can be walked in their entirety in a couple of hours. The Minster is magnificent; the Shambles is extraordinary; the National Railway Museum is the finest museum of its kind in the world and entirely free.

York is also a living city rather than a heritage exhibit: two universities, an excellent independent retail and restaurant offer, and a hinterland of North Yorkshire countryside that stretches to the Moors and the Wolds in directions that take your breath away in different seasons.

This page is for York, Harrogate, Selby, Malton, Easingwold, Pocklington, Tadcaster and surrounding villages.
